Crime in Peyia - Burglary/Theft

Good morning all
We have been in Cyprus for a month now and have been lucky enough to find a property in Lower Peyia which we are in the process of buying. We have read that there is a high level of Burglaries recently and the problem is getting worse.
Can anyone advise whether this is a general problem or is it in a particular part of the Paphos district. Also what are the best security measures to take to protect our property once we move in.
